Something that goes unspoken in the cult of Tori Amos is that she knows the value of press and that she knows how to exploit it. So, six albums into her career, and several years since she captured headlines, she released Strange Little Girls, a collection of covers intended to strike a dagger into the heart of how males view females in pop songs. To be honest, you wouldn't know that from listening to 5/ Tori Amos' covers are usually extremely interesting (amongst others, Thank You, from Led Zeppelin, on the Crucify EP, is as beautiful as it could be, and her rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart on the now out-of-print B of A Pavilion, Boston, MA 8/21/05 CD is totally fantastic) but when it comes to this release, it smells the /5(). Still, this is a Tori Amos record. If she wants to do relatively commercial and tender tunes, she will like on 's Scarlet's Walk. But if she wants to go into concept-albums and records few of the most haunting tracks ever, she gives you something like Strange Little Girls.

Then you have The Beatles' Happiness Is a Warm Gun, a strange, ten minute long, montage of Interview samples and a cover of Slayer's Raining Blood which is as slow and gothic as you can get imagine the rain from the intro of Slayer's original track, played on half speed with bits of moll-piano sprankled over it.
