To add insult to injury, the film has been stretched out from a aspect ratio to so all of the people appear distorted. This is because the stock footage used was and they couldn't be bothered editing it to fit into a widescreen presentation.
They just stretched the lot, and when you watch the DVD it is very noticeable. It's claimed that this was a deliberate move and not a decision based on technical difficulties, but I'm not sure.
Overall - I'd say watch koyaanisqatsi again - it's the only film out of the three worth repeated viewings. Looking for some great streaming picks? Check out some of the IMDb editors' favorites movies and shows to round out your Watchlist.

This limited edition boxset is a fitting tribute to the composer Philip Glass who reached his 80th birthday in It comprises of 24 CDs and Album) page hard back book which are contained in a solidly constructed cardboard display box.
For a Glass fan, this souvenir CD set is mouth-wateringly good! For others, who are interested in Glass's music, then this is an ideal way of obtaining some of his greatest works at a budget price compared to purchasing the CDs individually. The book is the icing on the cake! Many box sets lack the background information, sleeve notes, librettos, photographs and other details that enrich the experience of purchasing CDs.
However, this book has the original background notes, synopsis and librettos for all the operas and this is highly commendable. For the rest of the music the book contains the sleeve notes. The CDs are all in cardboard sleeves which have the original artwork from the album covers.
I have provided the dates of the recordings. There are 15 separate sleeves or albums- 1 Glassworks This sleeve contains 3 CDs. The first CD is the original recording and the second CD is a special remix which was done for compact cassette players Sony Walkman which were the 's equivalent of a MP3 player. I couldn't detect any difference in the sound between these but the tape was supposed to suit listening via headphones. The third CD is an interview with Philip Glass who discusses Glassworks and is interspersed with clips from the album.
Glass deliberately aimed this album towards a wider audience and I think that it is timeless and poignant. The first track is a solo piano, and this is followed by other works performed by the Philip Glass Ensemble.
This album works very well for just listening to. Glass has composed many works based on the lives of influential and famous people, and this composition followed the opera Einstein on the Beach. The music is upbeat and melodic, and the tracks are relatively short.
Einstein has none of these characteristics. I absolutely love this opera, and have seen it performed live. The book contains 23 pages of explanation and this excludes the libretto. However, the libretto is mostly random text and some of the voices sing numbers. I recommend starting with the first and last tracks to get a flavour of the sound world - but try not to be put off if you haven't listened to this opera before. It is hypnotic and trance-inducing and probably soporific if you try to listen to the whole opera in one sitting.
Compared with Einstein on the Beach, it actually sounds like an opera. The voices are sung in the classical way although the language is ancient Sanskritt, so you will need the libretto to understand it. The music is peaceful and melodic. This was the first song cycle that Philip Glass composed and it is a diverse collection with no discernible musical thread holding it together.
It is my stand out favourite, but they are all lovely tunes 6 Dance Pieces This album contains excerpts from a dance piece entitled In the Upper Room. There are five movements on this album from nine and consists of repetitive rhythmic music. This has melodic interest and is a progression from earlier minimalist works which relied on less colour and complexity.
There is a significant amount of orchestral music in this opera as the live performance includes dance and performance. It is the third opera in Glass's trilogy of portrait operas along with Einstein and Satyagraha, and the music has a more diverse and richer sound 8 Dance Not.
It is exuberant, and quite unlike most Album) music, lending itself to modern interpretation - not traditional ballet or ballroom! It's hyperactive minimalism, if that makes sense. On this CD, it is performed by Philip Glass. These are large choral works and have a symphonic basis, New World - Philip Glass - Naqoyqatsi (CD.
They are part of the "portraits of nature" another trilogy of works. This music is performed live in accompaniment to the film, if you are lucky enough to go to a performance. It also includes The Olympian: Lighting of the torch and closing - which was the official music of the 23rd Olympics I have listed the albums because the Amazon product description wasn't very clear.
This is a lovely box set and I am pleased that I bought it even though I have most of the original CDs! This is practically perfect in every way. All in a beautiful, sturdy box, with a pages hardback book containing five full libretti, essays and original linear notes.
The CDs are even replicas of the original vinyls. Plus, it's just dropped in price! Snap it up! Absolutely gob-smacking package and sterling introduction to Philip Glass' musical universe. The era of streaming has left us Silver Spinner-lovers with a huge amount og bargains to be had and this is one of them. Luxurious box, including black vinyl-like cd's in facsimile LP covers, thoroughly informative and comprehensive booklet, including headlines and -most important- the Opera's libretti.
A thrilling issue from Sony. Beautiful Album) listen at night whilst reading. Some general thoughts, essentially on Sony's production and presentation: - A seminal composer of modern times, Glass made his early recordings for Sony before founding his own label Orange Mountain. He also recorded for Elektra and various other labels and the vast majority of his considerable recorded output lies subsequent to what you find here. Although all of that early Sony work is here though - and most has been issued several times before, especially the operas - more recently he has made further recordings with the label and they are not included, so if you're now reading the box title 'The Complete Sony Recordings' that is certainly not accurate and Sony were premature in so naming it.

Oct 08, · Philip Glass yet again presents us with a diverse and expansive landscape of music, though by now it seems a little old hat. Like its predecessors, Naqoyqatsi is non-linear, more a series of images and music than a narrative. Directed by Godfrey Reggio, this piece follows he same measured, somehow epic, yet somehow intimate tone. The oldest composition on the whole collection of Sony Recordings is Contrary Motion, so head fro this track if you want to listen to authentic minimalism from its earliest roots, as conceived by Philip Glass 13) Naqoyqatsi This album is CD 22, and Naqoyqatsi is one of three film soundtracks that Glass composed, known as the Qatsi Trilogy/5(55).
