I already own Vienna and Uvox. Vienna is a great album. Uvox is very iffy but strangly enough my daugher likes it, she takes the songs are very catchy.

Regards Peter. IMHO it's Ultravox at their very best - you wont be disapointed. Lament is not exactly one of my favourite albums, but yes, keep an open mind about it. If you like it If you don't, that's fine too. Don't know why. It's good, but not up there as a favourite. Strange that you got the wrong record.

They have all very different sounds: Vienna: Quickly recorded and very charming. Quartet: Very slick George Martin?? Lament: VeryLP), but any other albums that includes a song like "Man of two worlds"? U-vox: Well, not their best moment, but believe me, I have worse records than this one in my collection. Thanks guys for your comments. I've just had another mad moment and ordered Rage in Eden. Judging by your comments, this album sounds good.

I'll post my views on it once I've heard it. Yes MB pls. I tried my damnedest to like it and, at the time, kind of did but it was alway a bit of a struggle. Clearly they were aiming at creating a more commercial album than RIE and they certainly succeeded. Commercial doesn't mean good however These days I can listen to it. I like it much more than I like Lament and it does hang together LP) as an album. Give that one a few turns and I'm sure you'll like it more than Quartet.

I agree that after RIE Quartet was something of a letdown. Yes I like The Song too. For me the production is just a little too polished, LP). Still I'm not such a great fan of Lament either. Outside, I've got some catching up to do with the Midgevox stuff. RIE should be with me this week. Back in the eighties I followed Johns career in music and found Midgevox a bit too commerial. In my older years I've matured a bit and after lstening to you guys at the Voxgate it's about time I actually caught up with Ultravox done.

Better late than never Regards Peter. Do you remember that "Vote your favourite album" here on this site? Summarizing the votes shows, that not only members voted. Also, it is possible to vote more then once I am missing the other 5 albums too.

Unfortunally this covers only the Ure-era of the band. Quartetas others have LP), was indeed a letdown after the brilliant Rage In Eden. I find the production weak and the sound quality - for LP) of a better word - "thin". Content-wise I find it almost sounding like someone trying to imitate Ultravox rather than a bona fide UV work. The depth from the previous two albums is just not there. This, I think, is one of the rare times that George Martin did a poor job of producing an album.

I always recall a comment regarding Quartet that Mr. Not meaning to totally bash this album; it is an important part of their collection and does have some fine moments on it We Came to Dancethat much-disliked song here that I personally think is fab.

Sincerely- Volglory. Hi Volglory Thank you for your comments. Like you I actually like the track We came to dance. Hopefully RIE will arrive in the next day or two.

Looking forward to hearing it. It sounds from the comments here it is the best album. Then I gave the original a try. I think it is simply not as good mastered as other albums. This is independent from the tracks itself. Something is simply wrong. I am missing something, but I don't know what.

Ekin: I think the album, if anything, suffers more from being overproduced rather than underproduced ie - strong v weak. The Vienna-Album isn't bad. But I think this album gets most of its popularity from the titeltrack itself.

Looking back from to the VIENNA-release, this moment was the breakthrough LP) the band, the album they made history with. They found their typical sound. I understand RIE as a kind of successful experiment, not influenced that much by commercial aspects and pressure. Again a very creative album, but without that "fun with experiments". In this way "flat" but a very good album, more commercial for sure. But when you reach the limit, whats next? RIE for me is their best, it's the most creative album.

As I said, a successful experiment, the later one failed. And this makes the difference for me. Sorry for the double post. The ideas were good, but the thing George Martin and his team ironed out to within an inch were the elements that made 'Vienna' and 'Rage Given that UV were quite hot property inthe album production reflects what Chrysalis probably wanted and would have paid for - ie, a good solid album that would ensure die hards got the UV sound they wanted, while making it safe and accessible for newer fans who may only have come to the band on the back of Midge's increasing profile and the success of the previous two albums singles.

In that respect, George Martin's production was rich, and arguably perfect given the brief. All the best, EG. I am genuinely amazed that Quartet isn't universally worshipped I think it's an awesome album with awesome production. Namespaces Article Talk. Views Read Edit View history.
