Hacking away the dead wood that preceded and followed the band's greatest-hits period, As, Bs & Rarities follows the band through the delirious three years that opened with "Crazy," closed with "One Night," and bristled amidships with some of the most effervescent singles of the early to mid-'70s: "Tiger Feet," "The Cat Crept In," "Lonely This Christmas."9/ Dec 20, · The compilation A’s, B’s and Rarities is proof that Mud released some bona fide gems in the early '70s. Recorded in but not released until , the opening tune, “Last Tango in London,” immediately lets you know what kind of glitter rock lies ahead.
All of their number ones are included along with "Tiger Feet" the best selling single of For three very short years, Mud dominated the U. Give this a listen, you may be pleasantly surprised. See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews.
Verified Purchase. I bought this Tiger Feet - Mud - As as having recently met a member of Mud I thought it was time to have a listen to some of those songs I used to enjoy in my youth. I bought all of Mud's singles and still ahev them Bs & Rarities (CD) fact and used to listen to both the 'A' and 'B' sides, often playing the 'B' more than the 'A', so this CD was ideal for me, Bs & Rarities (CD).
I have really enjoyed listening to the tracks again. Now they are digital and I have more appreciation for the music it is interesting to hear the sound so much more clearly. Some of the 'B' sides were not as well produced as the 'A' sides and double tracking has not sometimes worked with the vocals as it was possibly meant to, a good example being 'Morning'. However, it all sounds so fresh.
It is ironic that we still hear a lot of Mud's music around today. There is still a band called 'Mud' playing live gigs although the original line up are not represented any more, but they play the original music plus new songs.
Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. I love mud and all there records had all there originals in the 70s and when I moved house I lost all my records of the 70s as that is my era. Great album, arrived promptly - excellent value all hits and b sides and a few others too! The sleeve notes mention that eight tracks appear on cd for the first time in the UK - so presumably Bs & Rarities (CD) have been available on cd import up until now Both these hits made no.
The hits still sound great; I particularly like 'Rocket' and 'The secrets that you keep' - a song sung in a very 'Elvis' type style by lead singer Les Gray. The b-sides are a mixed bag 'I can't stand it' and 'The Ladies' are particularly throwaway. I like the harmonious 60s sounding 'Mr Bagatelle' and the acoustic 'Morning'; both in total contrast to their rousing a-sides, 'Tiger Feet' and 'The Cat crept in' respectively, whilst 'Watching the Clock' and 'Still watching the Clock' are glorious slices of Mud Rock.
I wonder how many fans who bought the singles actually played the b-sides? I bet they got one quick spin and that was it, never played again. An interesting inclusion also is a version of the Glenn Miller instrumental 'In the Mood' done in the Mud style - it was released under the pseudonym of Dum get it?
The album comes with some good sleeve notes by Martin Hutchinson and some tributes to the late Les Gray and Mickie Most. I did spot some glaring typos on Errol Browns quote which seemed to have escaped quality control viz; " Otherwise, well done EMI, another worthwhile release which should delight the passing listener and the muddiest of Mud fans.

Yet EMI's ongoing As, Bs & Rarities series offers nothing less than the same thorough treatment that any other, more hallowed, label could expect. The format is essentially the same throughout: a gathering up of every RAK single (A-sides and B-sides) released by a given band, with the remainder of the CD filled with choice outtakes and oddities -- an approach that the average Mud fan will relish.
